AFRIKANWATCH NETWORK HONOURS PROF. IBIYEMI OLATUNJI-BELLO WITH AFRICAN GOLD MERIT AWARD









The charismatic Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has added yet another feather to her glittering cap by being honoured with the African Gold Merit Award by Afrikanwatch Network.
The award, tagged “Star of Transformation and Bravery Vice-Chancellor of the Year 2025”, was presented to her on Monday, 2nd June 2025, at her office on the 6th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, main campus, Ojo.
The team from Afrikanwatch was led to the campus by a member of the Advisory Council of Afrikanwatch Network, Prof. Solomon Akinboye, who described the Vice-Chancellor as a woman of profound intellectuality and administrative dexterity, whose tremendous contributions and achievements should be acknowledged and rewarded.
Mr Mark Orgu, the Editor-in-Chief, Afrikanwatch Network, noted that the criteria used in selecting the Vice-Chancellor for the award were contributions to national development, track records, performance and human capacity building.
In her acceptance speech, Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed her gratitude, emphasising that the good work seen outside is a reflection of the dedication and diligence of staff members. She said, “…everything we have achieved is the collective contribution of every staff”.
“My advice for men and women, whatever you are doing, do it with integrity. Be focused on your achievements and do not allow distractions to stop you”, she concluded. The Vice-Chancellor thereafter dedicated the award to the diligent staff of LASU.
The Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU, gave the vote of thanks.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Oseni Afisi; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo; Bursar, Mr Said Olayinka; Director, Directorate of ICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin and Deputy Registrar, Academic Staff Establishment, Mr Samuel Otesanya were all on ground to support the Vice-Chancellor as she received the award.
