LASU Vice Chancellor Joins Celebrations at Basic Medical Sciences and Basic Clinical Sciences Collaborative Faculty Day

The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello mni, NPOM, has urged academics, researchers, and other stakeholders to leverage on the impactful potential of biomedical research for the rapid advancement of Nigeria. The plea was articulated during the joint Faculty Day of the Faculty of Basic Medical and the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, hosted at the College Auditorium on Thursday, November 16th 2023. While declaring the Faculty Day open, the Vice Chancellor emphasised the theme relevance to national progress, stating biomedical research possess the potential to transform the nation, instigating positive changes in the health sector. She asserted that beyond enhancing health care, biomedical research will play a pivotal role in stimulating economic growth, attracting investments, nurturing entrepreneurship, and generating employment opportunities She thanked the College Provost, the Deans and other members of both Faculties for making the occasion a resounding success. In his opening address, the Provost of the College, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya acknowledged the timeliness and relevance of the theme. He emphasised that the Faculty Day would serve as a platform for researchers to exchange ideas and share knowledge. The keynote address titled “Translational Biomedical Research: A Catalyst for National Growth and Development” was delivered by Prof. Fatimah B. Abdul Kareem of Department of Anatomy and Molecular Pathology, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. Also, Prof. Abraham A. A. Osinubi, Dean, Post Graduate School, University of Lagos, and Dr. Chika K. Onwuama spoke on the sub themes, “Basic Medical Science Research: From Bench to Bedside” and “Basic Medical Research: Innovation and Current Reseach,” respectively. Among those to share their wealth of knowledge were the CMD LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, Dean FBMS, Prof. L.C. Ajonuma, Dean, FBCS, Prof. O.k. Yemitan and other members from both Faculties.
