Unilag's Faculty Of Basic Medical Sciences Honours Lasu Vc, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, With Ambassador Award Of Excellence

Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has added another feather to her glistering cap with the conferment on her of the Ambassador Award of Excellence by the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

Professor Olatunji-Bello, received the award during the 10th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the faculty on Monday, 30th October, 2023 at the Medical College, Idi-Araba “In recognition of (her) trailblazing achievements in academia and university administration in Nigeria.”

Dean of the faculty, Prof. Oluyemi Akintoye, while presenting her with the award, described Prof. Olatunji-Bello as one of theirs who is making her department, Physiology, and the faculty proud, and so deserved to be honoured as their ambassador.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, in her response appreciated the FBMS-CMUL for finding her worthy of the award. She said, “I am humbled by the conferment of the FBMS-CMUL Ambassador Award of Excellence on me. This is a weighty title, but I bear it with pride and a sense of responsibility. “

The event, which was chaired by a mentor of the VC and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Tolu Odugbemi had in attendance professors and members of the faculty, invited members of the academia from within and outside the country as well as members of management and functionaries of Lagos State University who went to support their VC.

Winner of multiple awards, Prof. Olatunji-Bello started her career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences in 1988 and rose to the position of Associate Professor in 2005 before joining the Lagos State University College of Medicine as the first professor of Physiology.
