VC, PROF. OLATUNJI-BELLO, INAUGURATES IIVC COMMITTEE, CHARGES MEMBERS TO BE DILIGENT, EMPATHETIC IN THE DISCHARGE OF THEIR SERVICE

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, on Tuesday, inaugurated the Independent Indigenes Verification Committee (IIVC) and tasked the members to ensure due diligence in determining applicants who are indigenes and those who are not, so as not to deny the bonafide indigenes their right to education in the institution.Prof. Olatunji-Bello, while inaugurating the committee, reminded the members about the university’s policy on admission, urging them to ensure its implementation. She said, “Please note that the policy of the university on admission is 70% for Lagosians and 30% for others hence the role of IIVC is critical to the implementation of the policy.”She listed out their Terms of Reference, which include, to investigate by interviewing and taking other neccessary steps to confirm or otherwise the claims of prospective students and staff of LASU to Lagos State origin using applicable Laws and policies; to recommend to the VC from, time to time, actions to be taken to ensure that the indigenship policy of the university is actualized; and to disseminate information to indigenous communities in Lagos State where the need arises.“I therefore urge you to partner with the university to ensure that the rights of our students are protected at all times. I also urge you to exhibit patience, integrity, responsiveness and empathy in the discharge of your responsibilities without fear or favour”, she said at the ceremony before inaugurating the 35 man Body.Chairman of the IIVC, Dr. Maroof Animashaun, in his welcome address, said the Committee is a body charged with the responsibility of screening and verifying Lagos indigenship claims as part of its duty to independently implement the indigenship policy adding that the subcommittees are headed by notable and respected persons from the five divisions (Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe) of the state.Alhaji Mustapha Oluwayemisi Okunmoyibo, who responded on behalf of the Committee, thanked the VC for the opportunity to serve and assured that the policy would be effectively implemented.The event was attended by members of the university management and other functionaries of the administration.
