The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, officially flagged off the Indigeneship Verification Exercise to kickstart the 2026/2027 admission process. The flag-off ceremony took place on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Conference Room, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, coinciding with the inauguration of the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC).

Professor Olatunji-Bello reiterated LASU’s unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and institutional integrity throughout the admission process. She warmly welcomed the newly inaugurated IIVC members, commending their consistent dedication to upholding the credibility of LASU’s admissions system. She stressed that the indigeneship verification serves as a crucial safeguard for equity and public trust, urging the Committee to conduct their duties with professionalism, objectivity, and adherence to the approved guidelines. The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated the University’s zero tolerance for any form of compromise.

Highlighting the exercise’s structured schedule, the Vice-Chancellor outlined that the screening for candidates of Lagos State origin will be conducted in four phases: Phase 1 from April 27 to April 30, Phase 2 from May 4 to May 7, Phase 3 from May 11 to May 14, and Phase 4 from May 18 to May 22, 2026. She called on Committee members to ensure strict compliance with the timetable, maintaining efficiency and orderliness throughout the process.

In his remarks, Professor Moruf Animashaun, Chairman of the IIVC, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the increased allowance for Committee members. He urged the team to uphold due process and ensure a smooth exercise, as achieved in the previous year. He noted that over 7,000 admitted students in the 2025/2026 academic session were Lagos State indigenes and expressed optimism that this figure would rise, depending on participation levels.

Dr. Mustapha Agbagbiaka, speaking on behalf of the Division, praised the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership and commitment to due process. He assured that Committee members, drawn from various divisions across Lagos State, would collaborate closely with the University to ensure seamless implementation of the verification exercise while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the Registrar, the Senior Deputy Registrar, Mr. Samuel Osesanya, commended the Vice-Chancellor for her inspiring leadership and thanked Committee members for their dedication. He reaffirmed LASU’s commitment to providing full support for a smooth, transparent, and hitch-free verification exercise.

This exercise underscores LASU’s dedication to ensuring a fair and credible admission process for all candidates seeking admission into the institution.
