OODUA YOUTH PARLIAMENT HONOURS PROF. IBIYEMI OLATUNJI-BELLO WITH OUTSTANDING VICE CHANCELLOR IN SOUTH WEST AWARD

The charismatic Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM has added yet another feather to glittering cap by being honored with the Outstanding Vice-Chancellor in the South West Award. The recognition was presented to her by the Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP) on Thursday, 6th March 2025, at her office on the 6th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, main campus, Ojo.

The OYP, a prominent organisation representing Yoruba-speaking ethnic minorities in Nigeria and across 16 other countries globally, bestowed the award in acknowledgment of Prof. Olatunji-Bello’s “exemplary leadership, unwavering support for youth empowerment, and dedication to uplifting the less privileged.

Aare Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi, Speaker of the OYP and Special Assistant to the Governor of Osun State, said that the award was a unanimous decision by the Parliament. He commended Prof. Olatunji-Bello for her remarkable contributions, not only to Lagos State University but to the broader community of young people.

He remarked, “You have set a standard for LASU. You have made LASU one of the most internationally recognised universities in Nigeria, and we bear witness to the number of lives you have positively impacted.”

In her acceptance speech, Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed her gratitude, emphasising that her commitment to the university and its students comes from a place of passion. She said, “I appreciate this award. We do all the things you said because we are passionate about LASU, we are passionate about youths.

“We are doing our bits here, not knowing that people are watching even from afar. For us, we go out and see what’s happening in other universities and we come back to replicate them here. LASU is a global brand and we are committed to building a competitive environment here so that we will not lag behind”, she said while acknowledging the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi, founder of the OYP.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi; the Director, Directorate of ICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin; Deputy Registrar, VCO, Dr Lateef Sekoni and Special Assistant to the VC, Dr Lateef Salami were all on ground to support the VC as she received the award from the group…
